Halloween is upon us...
I have never really been that big into Halloween at most I dress my dog up and wait for the adorable trick or treaters to come by. This year my room mates and I figured why not go all out so we are all being fairies! (included the lovely Lambeau my English Bulldog) So I figured I would share with you our DIY costumes and how I made mine! Enjoy!!
Ok so first things first was the tutu. I searched high and low for an easy way to do these since I had 4 to make so here is the link to the video, How to make a no sew tutu, that I got my idea from. It is for a little girl but I just adjusted the measurements to fit an adult. They were super easy to make and probably took me an hour to an hour and half to make them once I got the hang of it.
Supplies:
3 yards of Ribbon (you want enough to go around your waste and have extra to make a big bow to secure the tutu around you)
6 yards of tulle (I did two yards of each color, blue, pink and white)
Next was wings! I am a big fan of the website http://www.threadbanger.com/ and it just so happened that they had a great tutorial for making wings a few weeks before I started this project! (lucky me) So here is the link to that video as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z20jIu7XJk . The hardest part of these wings is shaping the wire hangers but with a little elbow grease and some pliers you'll do fine!
Supplies:
4 wire hangers
4 knee highs (I got mine for a dollar at Wal-Mart there were 4 pairs in the package)
Electrical tape
Thick satin ribbon
Optional:
Glitter Puffy Paint
Now I also put holes in my wings to add some interest. To do this all you need is a lighter and I used a shish kabob skewer. Basically I got the skewer really hot but not on fire. As soon as you put the skewer to the nylon it will burn a nice neat hole and make a nice edge too. If you want a bigger hole just move the skewer around in circles and the hole will get bigger.
Whats a fairy without an amazing wand. This is pretty basic and you can go many different directions with it be creative and use things you have around the house!
Supplies:
1 dowel rod
silver metallic paint
I used a Christmas ornament that I found at Wal-Mart for a dollar its the main star or flower thing on the wand.
Extra tulle or ribbon adds a nice touch but really you can add anything to this to make it just right for you.
Last I'll leave you with a picture of my English Bulldog all dressed up and ready for Halloween. We have been doing some "dress rehearsals" to get her used to her wings... she wants to eat them. lol
